Smoke Shop FAQs
How can I roll my own cigarettes?
First you will need rolling tobacco and a rolling paper. There are
many different types of tobacco, choosing one that is soft, not dry
and brittle, will make it much easier. Papers are all fairly similar,
a thin paper is more difficult to roll as it can tear easily, but is
less harsh than a thicker paper. Some papers have a desirable flavor
added so it is really up to the smoker what type of paper is used. Start
by crumpling up the paper into a small ball, then flattening it back
out being careful not to rip it. This part of the process allows the
paper to be rolled over easier, and is a trick not many people know
about. With the flat paper in your hand place two small pinches of tobacco
in the center of each half. Cup both hands together like you are making
a bowl to drink out of, this is the basic hand position for rolling
a cigarette, thumb nails should be pointing to your face and the index
fingers should be on top. Now put the paper with the tobacco in your
hands with the glue side of the paper closest to the index fingers and
facing you. Slowly roll the tobacco down to the other end of the paper
with your thumbs. When the tobacco is compressed, roll the paper back
up the other direction making sure that the paper catches on itself
and covers the tobacco. As it gets to the top, lick the glue on the
paper and complete the roll. Now smoke and enjoy.
What is the difference between “full flavor” and
“light” cigarettes?
The main difference between full flavor and light cigarettes is the
way the filter is designed. A light cigarette has a series of holes
that are cut into the middle of the filter that allow air to enter the
filter and dilute the smoke a little bit. Full flavor cigarettes do
not have these small holes, which can easily be seen by the naked eye.
Another way that cigarettes can be made light is through a tobacco curing
process that injects carbon dioxide into the tobacco, puffing it up
in the same way that polystyrene (Styrofoam) is made. The puffed tobacco
is then immediately heated to remove the CO2 but the tobacco keeps it
larger size. This is called expanded tobacco and it allows for light
cigarettes to be made the same size as regular ones, but with less tobacco.
Light cigarettes are just as dangerous as regular ones however, and
they should not be mistaken as a healthier cigarette.
How can I quit smoking cigarettes?
440,000 people quit smoking every year by dying, often because of smoking
cigarettes. Quitting now can be more difficult though and there is not
one prescribed way of doing it. Some people can quit “cold-turkey”,
or just stop and never start again, but that takes a tremendous amount
of will power and dedication. Other people use drugs that curb desires,
or allow the nicotine to be ingested without smoking. It is actually
the nicotine that smokers are addicted to, smoking cigarettes is the
easiest way to get that fix, but now there are patches, gum and inhalers
that contain nicotine, a mild stimulant, without any smoke. Nicotine
has not been shown to cause cancer, but it is possible that it can aid
existing cancer cells. Therapy and having friends and family that support
the decisions can help more than anything else often. Quitting smoking
is proven to lower the risks caused by cigarettes, even if they have
been smoked constantly for years.
